Columbus High School Coach
Bobby Howard, Head Coach
Beginning his twenty sixth season as Head Coach of the Columbus High Blue Devils, Coach Howard continues to prove himself a leader in Columbus baseball circles.

Coach Howard graduated from Jordan High School.  He received his formal education at Columbus State University, Troy State and Georgia Southwestern College in Americus, Georgia.  He was inducted into Columbus State University Hall of Fame in 1998, the Georgia Dugout Club Sports Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Chattahoochee Valley Hall of Fame in 2005.

Coach Howard has been coaching baseball since 1975, beginning at Columbus High.  He has also coached at Jordan High, CVCC, Kendrick, Middle Georgia College, and then back at Columbus High School.  He is married to the former Vicki Lynn Welsh.  He has two daughters, Mandy and Lindsey Rae, and one son, Will.

Columbus High School Coach
Jeff Boatner, Assistant Coach

Beginning his seventh season as Assistant Coach of the Columbus High Blue Devils, Coach Boatner is an alumnus of Columbus High School and a life-long scholar of baseball.  He holds the honor of being among the few to have started on the Blue Devils Varsity baseball team all four years under the leadership of Coach Howard. Coach Boatner was drafted by the Houston Astros in 1989, but chose to take advantage of a full baseball scholarship with Brewton Parker College in Mt. Vernon, Georgia. Upon graduating with a B.S. Education degree, he played two seasons of minor league baseball with the Zanesville, Ohio Greys of the Frontier League. In the off-season of his minor league career, he spent time as a Graduate Assistant Baseball Coach at Brewton Parker College. Coach Boatner's education includes a Masters degree in Physical Education/Sports Management from Troy State University.  

He is married to the former Melanie Hicks of Columbus, Georgia.  They have two children: a daughter, Kayson and a son, Will.

Chad Mathis, Assistant Coach

Beginning his fifth season as Assistant Coach of the Columbus High Blue Devils, Coach Mathis is a 1994 graduate of Peach County High School, in Ft. Valley, GA. where he was a member of the 1992 State Runner up football team and a 4 year letterman in baseball.  His education includes as Associate of Science Degree in Secondary Education from Andrew College, Cuthbert, GA. and a B.S. Education from Columbus State University where he was 2nd Team All Conference selection. He signed a free agent contract in 1999 with the Class "A" Richmond Roosters, Richmond, IN. in the Frontier League. Coach Mathis comes to CHS from Andrew College where he was the Head Assistant Baseball Coach for the Tigers. He was an Assistant at Pacelli High School in Varsity football, basketball and baseball in 2001-2002.  He was also an Assistant at Berrien High School, Nashville, GA. in Varsity football and baseball in 2000-2001. He is married to the former Elizabeth McKnight of Columbus, Georgia.  They have one child, daughter Emma, born in 2008.

In 2009, Coach Mathis added the responsibilty and title of Athletic Director at Columbus High School.

Greg Mathis, Assistant Coach
Beginning his fifth season as Assistant Coach of the Columbus High Blue Devils, Coach Mathis is a graduate of Kendrick High School where he played for Coach Bobby Howard and was an All Bi-City selection in both football and baseball. Coach Mathis signed a football scholarship with Liberty University and later returned to plat baseball at CVCC, Phenix City, AL. where he was selected MVP and an AJCC All Conference selection 1982-83. He finished his college career at Columbus State University, formerly Columbus College where he played on the first team at reach the D-II College World Series in 1984.  His education includes an Associates Degree from CVCC and B.S. from Columbus State University.  Coach Mathis was Head football coach at Woodward Academy where he took the team to 3 consecutive state playoff appearances from 1988-1991. He was the Head Baseball Coach for 4 years from 1988-1991 winning 2 Region titles. He was also the Head Baseball Coach at Americus High School 1991-92 and Assistant Football Coach. He is married to the former Melissa Greene of Columbus, Georgia.  They have three sons, Brooks, Tyler and Camden.

Don "Shine" McClintock, Assistant Coach

Beginning his second season as Assistant Coach of the Columbus High Blue Devils, Coach McClintock attended Georgia Military College completing his high school years, playing his 10th and 11th grade years on the college baseball team. He earned College All-Conference team as a Sophomore in high school achieving All-American honors his Junior year. Coach McClintock was instrumental with adding high school baseball to GMC and was named to the Georgia High School All-State baseball squad his Senior year.

After being drafted into the United States Army, Coach McClintock was recruited by Coach Charles Ragsdale while serving. Following his honorable discharge, he became the starting shortstop for Columbus College, now the Columbus State University Cougars. Following the inaugural baseball year, he signed a professional baseball contract with the Oakland A's.

Prior to joining the CHS coaching staff, Coach "Sunshine" McClintock has been living in Maui, Hawaii. He was married for 25 years to Donna Andrews, a Columbus State graduate. Until her death in 1998, they enjoyed raising their two children, Shannon and Drew. Coach McClintock is the proud grandfather to Regan and Ryan.

After Donna's death, his mother introduced him to Kathy, a University of Alabama graduate. He and Kathy were wed in Maui. Kathy is the proud grandmother to Jack Copley.

Pat McGregor, Assistant Coach
Beginning his second season as Assistant Coach of the Columbus High Blue Devils, Coach McGregor is a 2003 graduate of Columbus High School and a former member of the baseball team from 2000 - 2003.  He is currently attending Columbus State University pursuing a degree in Health/Physical Education.  For the past three years, Coach McGregor was an Assistant Coach at Northside High School, Columbus Georgia working with the varsity pitchers, and JV and freshman teams.
